Life in Quarantine: Week FIVE
This week passed by so fast. “Quarantine” life is crazy. On one hand, it feels like the days are dragging on. On the other hand, I’m constantly looking at the clock amazed that it’s “already” time for dinner. I’m not sure why that is.
Ian & I are being kinda strict on screentime most days. Grayson can watch TV after he’s dressed in the morning & until breakfast is over, then the screen goes off. We’ve been playing outside, catching bugs, & soaking up the sunshine (finally). Nothing super notable happened this week, but here are some highlights:
Snails & bugs are a big hit in our household right now. Grayson loves catching snail “pets” in his bug catcher. They’re actually kind of fun to watch… they eat more than I thought they would & they’re kind of fun. I make him release them every couple of days back into the wild. I’m such a softie, even for bugs. I think this catcher is a great way to instill a sense of gentleness around living creatures. Grayson is already such an empathetic guy; he surprises me daily!
We pulled Grayson’s old little jungle play structure out of the garage & Maddie has been loving it. It’s so fun to watch her play with Grayson’s old things & it flashes me right back to his babyhood.
Every now & then, Grayson and I will share hot chocolate and watch a movie while Ian’s putting Maddie down or having a virtual poker night with his friends. Grayson is SO excited to get a grownup mug & drink hot chocolate. He told me he likes to pretend it’s coffee. He holds it so gingerly in his little hands & savors every sip.
Maddie is such a climber. For as late as she walked, she’s climbing far better than Grayson did at her age. She can climb onto the couch, coffee table, you name it. I’m impressed & a little terrified. Her favorite thing to do is stand up on the couch & give me a heart attack. We’ve taken to setting up the nugget on the floor next to it so if she tumbles, at least she has a soft landing. I think we’ll be getting her into a gymnastics class, stat. She already loves forward rolls.
Grayson has been setting up “picnics” on the living room floor. He chooses the cuisine. The one photographed below was with a potato, a carrot, and a cucumber, of which he then carried around in a wagon and snacked on all day (not the potato). He’s such a funny kid.
We blew up the bounce house we bought a couple years ago & it’s still a big hit. Literally the best Black Friday sale purchase ever.
Maddie has been obsessed with the giant Britney Spears cup I semi-stole in Vegas when I was pregnant with Grayson. It’s pretty funny; she grabs it every chance she gets. Also, I didn’t steal it. But we went to see Britney & I was super pregnant so I was obviously very sober, and a very not-sober girl next to me left it on the counter after she paid for her drunk munchies. So obviously when I got to the register to buy my snacks, I swiped it. Finders keepers?
We have Cooper’s Hawks nesting in the top of our big tree, and I’ve been trying to get a picture of them. Grayson’s been enjoying chasing me around the yard yelling “THERE IT IS!!!!” every time a crow flies over. It’s pretty funny.
Grayson has been loving pushing Maddie on the swing. I asked him to stand behind her and push so I had a better photo angle, and he did it for about 10 seconds then said “nah. I want to see her cute face” and moved back in front of her. They really do have a cute, special bond.
Anyway, tried to limit the photos I post again this week & failed a bit. So here are a bunch!
