Photoshoot Locations in San Diego | San Diego Family Photographer
I’ve been lucky enough to live in San Diego my entire life, so I already knew it like the back of my hand, but having been a full time photographer for 11 years now, I’ve really been able to narrow down the absolutely best locations for photo shoots in San Diego! San Diego is full of amazing beach photo shoot locations, open field photo shoot locations, and great park locations, so there are a ton of spots to choose from. Whether you live in San Diego or are planning a San Diego vacation photoshoot, I’ve got you covered! Here are my top 5 locations for family photos in San Diego!
CORONADO BEACH:
This spot is right next to the Hotel Del Coronado, which makes it perfect for vacation family photos in San Diego! It’s my favorite beach spot because it’s so versatile. There are great rocks for posing, views of both the sand/water & the historic Hotel Del Coronado, and it’s not one of the most crowded locations, which makes it perfect for family photos.
PRESIDIO PARK:
Another favorite spot of mine due to versatility! The Serra Museum at Presidio Park sits on top of the hill & provides beautiful architecture, brick steps, and unique wooden doors which are great for family photo sessions. A short walk to the trails & you’ll be surrounded by trees & bushes, which makes for 2 completely different looks in one location. It’s great for both morning & evening sessions!
BALBOA PARK:
Balboa Park is definitely an iconic spot in San Diego for family portraits. There are so many backdrops to choose from! There are ornate buildings & archways, beautiful fountains, and lush gardens. There’s something for everyone here, so whether you’re looking for a modern family photo location with architecture, or a more traditional location with flowers & ponds, this is the place to go!
SWEETWATER BRIDGE & FIELDS:
I’ll be honest, this used to be my secret spot! I grew up nearby, and for the longest time, this location was only known to locals. It was only a matter of time, however, until all the San Diego photographers discovered it because it’s SUCH an awesome spot! There’s a big steel bridge, which is the only of its kind here in San Diego, and provides a fun, unique location for family photos. The fields & trails behind the bridge are also gorgeous, and the light here is absolutely perfect during “golden hour” in the afternoon. This is definitely a favorite spot of mine!
OLD POWAY PARK:
I don’t think there’s a park in San Diego with more variety than Old Poway Park! It’s the perfect San Diego location for photos, because there’s so much to choose from! There are train tracks (safe ones, as the train only runs limited times on weekends), old train cars, bridges, a stream, grass lawns, and wooden buildings, all of which are absolutely perfect for family portraits in San Diego!
I hope this helps you find some great locations in San Diego for your family photos! Be sure to keep me in mind if you’re looking for a San Diego vacation photographer; I looooove photographing families while they’re visiting San Diego. It’s the perfect souvenir to bring home from your trip!
